Introducing Neil Armstrong

Neil Armstrong or known for Neil Alden Armstrong (August 5, 1930 – August 25, 2012) was an American astronaut and aeronautical engineer who in 1969 became the first person to walk on the Moon. He was also a naval aviator, test pilot, and university professor.

Armstrong joined NASA in 1962 as part of the second group of astronauts selected (the New Nine). He flew on the Gemini 8 mission in 1966, which achieved the first successful docking of two spacecraft in orbit. On July 20, 1969, Armstrong and fellow astronaut Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to land on the Moon during the Apollo 11 mission. Armstrong's famous words upon stepping onto the lunar surface were, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.

Armstrong's achievement marked a pivotal moment in human history, symbolizing technological achievement and the fulfillment of President John F. Kennedy's goal to land a man on the Moon and return him safely to Earth by the end of the 1960s.
