Nietzsche was born into a devout Lutheran family. His father, a Lutheran minister, died when Nietzsche was five, profoundly affecting his early life. Nietzsche was raised by his mother, sister, and other female relatives in a strictly religious environment. Nietzsche was a brilliant student, excelling in classical studies. He attended the University of Bonn and later the University of Leipzig, where he studied philology, the study of language in historical texts. His academic excellence led to a professorship in classical philology at the University of Basel at the age of 24, a remarkable achievement for someone so young. Throughout his life, Nietzsche suffered from various health problems, including severe migraines, digestive issues, and deteriorating eyesight.
