Introducing Anne Frank

Anne Frank, born on June 12, 1929, in Frankfurt, Germany, was a Jewish girl who gained posthumous fame through the publication of The Diary of a Young Girl, which documents her life in hiding during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. In 1942, to escape the growing persecution of Jews, Anne and her family went into hiding in a secret annex behind her father's business in Amsterdam. For over two years, they lived in cramped conditions, relying on trusted friends for supplies. Anne's diary, written with great insight, portrays the fears, hopes, and everyday struggles of life in hiding. In 1944, the family was betrayed and sent to concentration camps, where Anne died of typhus in early 1945, just before the war ended. Her father, Otto Frank, the only family member to survive, later published her diary, which has since become one of the most poignant symbols of the Holocaust.
