Seth Grahame-Smith was born Seth Jared Greenberg on January 4, 1976, in Rockville Centre, New York. His early life was shaped by a blend of literary influences and personal transitions. His mother, Deborah Ann Williams, was a literary editor, while his stepfather, from a later remarriage, worked as a rare books dealer, exposing him to the world of books from a young age. After his parents’ divorce, his mother changed his surname to "Grahame" in homage to Kenneth Grahame, the author of The Wind in the Willows, and later added "Smith" following her remarriage.
