Ron Franscell, born on January 29, 1957, in Casper, Wyoming, is an American journalist and author renowned for his work in both fiction and true crime genres. He graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1979 with a bachelor's degree in journalism. Franscell's career in journalism includes roles at various newspapers across the American West, such as the Denver Post and the Beaumont Enterprise. He also served as president of the Wyoming Press Association. 

In 1998, Franscell debuted as a novelist with "Angel Fire," a poignant tale of two brothers confronting personal ghosts in their hometown.
The novel was named among the San Francisco Chronicle's 100 Best Novels of the 20th Century West. He continued his fiction work with "The Deadline" (1999) and its sequel, "The Obituary" (2003). After a two-decade focus on nonfiction, Franscell returned to fiction with "Deaf Row" in 2023.
