Marti Noxon is an acclaimed American television and film writer, director, and producer born on August 25, 1964, in Los Angeles, California. Raised in Santa Monica, she grew up in a creative environment, influenced by her father, Nicolas Noxon, a National Geographic documentary filmmaker, and her mother, Mary Straley, who was gay. She has a brother, Christopher Noxon, a writer, and was connected through marriage to TV writer Jenji Kohan (her former sister-in-law). Noxon graduated from Oakes College at the University of California, Santa Cruz, in 1987 with a B.A. in Theater Arts. Initially drawn to acting for its glamour, she soon pivoted to writing—her true strength—after finding acting unfulfilling. Her career took off when she joined the writing staff of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in 1997 during its second season, eventually rising to executive producer for its sixth and seventh seasons (2001–2003). Since then, she has become one of television’s most prolific writer-producers, known for creating and producing critically acclaimed series like UnREAL, Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, Sharp Objects, and Dietland, as well as writing films such as I Am Number Four and To the Bone
