Introducing Kathryn Apel

Kathryn Apel is an Australian children's author and poet who resides on a grazing property in Queensland, surrounded by gum trees, kangaroos, and cattle. Despite her rural upbringing, she humorously admits to being scared of cows.

With a background as a teacher and literacy coach, Kathryn now dedicates her time to writing poetry, picture books, and verse novels.
She is best known for her verse novel "Bully on the Bus," which won the 2015 Australian Family Therapists’ Award for Children’s Literature in the younger reader/picture book category and was recognized as a 2019 Notable Social Studies Trade Book for Young People in America. 

Other notable works by Kathryn include "On Track," "Too Many Friends," "The Bird in the Herd," and "Up and Down on a Rainy Day."
Her picture book "Up and Down on a Rainy Day" was one of 12 published in 2020 by the State Library of Queensland as part of their Stories for Little Queenslanders series.

She conducts poetry workshops and author talks at schools and festivals, both in Australia and internationally.
