Kathleen Rooney is an American author, poet, editor, and educator known for her diverse literary contributions and active involvement in the publishing community. Born in Beckley, West Virginia, she was raised in the Midwest. Rooney earned a Bachelor of Arts from George Washington University and a Master of Fine Arts in Writing, Literature, and Publishing from Emerson College. 

In 2006, Rooney co-founded Rose Metal Press, a nonprofit publisher dedicated to literary works in hybrid genres. She is also a founding member of "Poems While You Wait," a collective of poets who compose typewritten poetry on demand in public spaces. ​ 

Rooney's literary repertoire spans fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Her novel "Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk" (2017) became a national bestseller, and "Cher Ami and Major Whittlesey" (2020) received critical acclaim. Her latest novel, "From Dust to Stardust," was published in 2023.
