Gregory Boyle is an American Jesuit priest, author, and the founder of Homeboy Industries, the largest gang-intervention, rehabilitation, and re-entry program in the world, based in Los Angeles. Ordained in 1984, Boyle served as pastor of Dolores Mission Church, located in one of L.A.'s most gang-heavy neighborhoods. He witnessed firsthand the devastating cycles of poverty, incarceration, and violence, which inspired him to create meaningful alternatives for gang members seeking to change their lives.
Through love, community, and radical kinship, Boyle emphasizes the importance of compassion over judgment, kinship over separation, and hope over despair. He is the author of acclaimed books such as Tattoos on the Heart, Barking to the Choir, and The Whole Language, which blend poignant storytelling with spiritual insight. His work and words challenge people to recognize the sacred in the marginalized and to live with fierce, inclusive tenderness.
