Edward Verrall Lucas (12 June 1868 – 26 June 1938) was a distinguished English writer and publisher, renowned for his essays, biographies, and novels.Born in Eltham, Kent, Lucas hailed from a Quaker family and received his education at Friends School in Saffron Walden.At sixteen, he began an apprenticeship with a Brighton bookseller, which paved the way for his journalistic career.
He contributed to the Sussex Daily News and later to The Globe in London.In 1904, Lucas joined the staff of Punch magazine, where he worked for over three decades.His prolific writing includes a seminal biography of Charles Lamb and numerous collections of light essays.
