Introducing D.L. Moody

Dwight Lyman Moody (1837–1899), commonly known as D.L. Moody, was an American evangelist, publisher, and one of the most influential figures in the 19th-century Christian revival movement. Born in Northfield, Massachusetts, Moody experienced poverty early in life, especially after the death of his father when he was only four years old. Despite his limited formal education, Moody demonstrated remarkable energy and charisma, qualities that would later define his ministry.

Moody initially worked as a shoe salesman in Boston, where he became deeply involved in church activities after a life-changing encounter with his Sunday school teacher, Edward Kimball. This moment marked the beginning of his commitment to sharing the Gospel. In 1856, he moved to Chicago, where his zeal for ministry grew, and he established the Illinois Street Church, later renamed the Moody Church.
